Framing workshop
Picture framing, done properly, downstairs.

How it works
From your hands to the wall in about a week and a half.
1
Bring it in
No appointment needed, Tuesday to Saturday. If it’s large or fragile, call ahead and we’ll come out to the car.
2
Choose together
We’ll lay corner samples and mounts on the work itself, then give you a written quote on the spot.
3
We make it
Cut, joined, mounted and fitted by hand in the workshop downstairs, usually in seven to ten working days.
4
Collect it
We’ll ring when it’s ready. Local delivery and hanging is £15 within five miles.

Choosing
The frame should suit the work first, and the room second.
Around forty to choose from: solid oak, ash and walnut, painted woods in white, black and soft colours, and a few gilded frames for older pieces.
Acid-free conservation board in a dozen whites and off-whites, plus colours. Double mounts and float mounts for deckled paper edges.
Clear glass as standard, or UV-filtering and anti-reflective museum glass for watercolours, photographs and anything in strong light.
Questions we’re asked at the counter
Do you only frame work bought here?
No. About half of what we frame comes from somewhere else: prints, posters, photographs, children’s paintings, maps, medals and shirts.
Can you frame a stretched canvas?
Yes. Most canvases look best in a float frame, which leaves a small gap around the edge so the painting seems to hover.
Will framing damage my print?
Not with us. Works on paper are hinged with conservation tape and mounted on acid-free board, so everything can be undone.
Can you mend an old frame?
Often, yes. We repair corners, replace glass and backing, and re-mount old pictures. Bring it in and we’ll take a look.
